FAQ
Q. What are "invisible" braces? Do they cost more?
A. Ceramic brackets are sometimes referred to as "invisible" braces. Some offices charge up to several hundred dollars more for ceramic brackets; however, we are able to offer these brackets at no additional cost.
Invisalign is another type of "invisible" braces and consists of a series of removable aligners. The cost of Invisalign is comparable to traditional braces.
Q. How frequent are appointments? Can I come after work/school?
A. While in "active treatment" (wearing braces) routine adjustment appointments will be scheduled every six to twelve weeks. During "retention" (wearing retainers) appointments will be less frequent. Most procedures can be done after school hours or late afternoons; however, those are our most requested times so appointments may need to be scheduled in advance. For lengthy procedures, such as putting your braces on, it will be necessary to come earlier in the day. For your convenience, we try to keep those "long appointments" to a minimum.
Q. Can my teeth be cleaned while wearing braces?
A. YES! We recommend you see your general dentist every six months for a thorough cleaning and exam. Braces will not interfere with routine preventative visits. If other procedures are indicated we will accommodate your general dentist. Occasionally, it is necessary to remove a bracket or the archwire for restorative procedures.
Q. How long will I have to wear braces?
A. Standard orthodontic treatment lasts approximately two years, but a lot depends on you! Patient cooperation (in keeping appointments, following instructions regarding elastics, etc.) can shorten active treatment. Bone density is also a determining factor.
